The Mettle in the Man

FORTY PERCENT OF THE NOTES BOUND BEHIND OUR BACKS JUST TO MAKE IT FAIR.

Our mums would dress us every day to go to the boarding school. The school required three piece suit, long tie, long sleeve shirt with cufflinks, belt, and spit-polished shoes (dress-up fridays were a little more strict).

As we stood there in the morning ready to go out the door to school, our mothers would tell us three things:

1) Never play cards for money with a man whose first name begins with a city.

2) Never procrastinate unless you can put off the procrastination until later.

3) A sharp dressed man must put on “the Topcoats” if you want to go anywhere in life.

Then we put on our topcoats and we headed off to school.

When we grew our first facial hair, we quit school, ran away and started a band. We named the group “the Topcoats” because we love our mums, but also we are rebels to the core. The topcoats are hot and sweaty when performing, but we don’t care; we will never take them off.

We love you mum!

“Mettle" is the first full album release for "The Topcoats" - formerly "Alandall,"  and we hope to explore the serious and whimsical ways in which our lives tend to be shaped by the wars that we fight - both in the world around us and in the world within.
